John
Mehn has served as a missionary in Japan since
1985 with the primary ministry of cross-cultural
church planting, leadership development, and
mobilization for church planting. He is
the director of the Japan Church Planting
Institute (JCPI) which has two broad purposes:
1) envisioning for multiple gospel-driven church
planting movements and 2) stimulation for
personal spiritual renewal and transformation
through the transforming power of the Gospel.
Since 1994, CPI has trained more than 1,200
foreign missionaries and Japanese leaders at the
CPI national annual conference.
Participants have come from over 100 agencies
and denominations, from every area of Japan, and
from over a dozen foreign countries. JCPI
is a ministry of the Japan Evangelical
Missionary Association (JEMA). John also
serves as Field Coordinator for his mission: the
Baptist General Conference Japan Mission.
John has a Master of Divinity degree from
Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is
completing his Doctor of Ministry in Missiology
at Trinity International University (Chicago).
Before moving to Japan, he served in district
church planting ministry, worked with Hispanics,
served in the Philippines with another mission,
and also pastored a BGC church in a transitional
urban community in his native Chicago.
John and his wife Elaine live in Tokyo, Japan.
Elaine’s ministries including personal spiritual
renewal teaching and mentoring. They have
two grown children, Tim and Beth.
